Durham Castle: Areas of Interest
Durham Castle has a vast array of nooks and crannies full of intrigue and interest.
The Peninsula fortifications, complete with moat and gatehouse, were designed to keep out the Scots. The keep and Northern Range are now home to students, whilst the Western Range keeps them fed and entertained. There are two chapels (the Norman Chapel and the Tunstall Chapel), and the central focus of the Castle is the courtyard. The leaning Black Staircase connects the Northern and Western ranges.
