The Western Range of Buildings
The Castle’s Western Range of buildings still retain most of the original components of the Norman building.
These included a Great Hall for entertaining, an Undercroft for storage (and now used as a student bar), and a kitchen.
Unsurprisingly, the main reception space, the Great Hall, has been modified over the years to keep up with the times. The most utilitarian spaces, such as the undercroft and storage areas have been tampered with much less.
The Western Range also incorporates the Castle's main entrance.

The Castle Great Hall, seen here during a wedding reception. The format of the hall, with the top table higher than the rest, has probably not changed since medieval times when the hall was built.
