Banks of the Seine, Paris, France

The inscription of this site reflects the fact that Paris is essentially a river-front city. Many of its most well-known architectural masterpieces are designed with the river in mind: foremost of these are Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides, the Grand Palais of the Champs Elysees, and the Louvre.

The inscription of this site on the World Heritage List reflects the fact that Paris is essentially a river-front city. Many of its most well-known architectural masterpieces are designed with the river in mind: foremost of these are Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides, the Grand Palais of the Champs Elysees, and the Louvre.

The riverbanks themselves form an integral part of Parisian life.
