1930s Building at Hatfield College

A 1930s residential block added to Hatfield College. It was designed by W.T. Jones, whom a later detractor criticised for being too preoccupied with prison design. However, it reflects a desire for a formal, classical building of the kind that have come to represent old, well respected institutions around the world. It was built by a Newcastle-based contractor, Henry Kelly Ltd at the cost of 10,000 pounds and was praised for providing running water in each of the bedrooms!
