News: Durham World Heritage Site Visitor Centre Wins a City of Durham Trust Architectural Award for 2011

The new Durham World Heritage Site Visitor Centre - housed in a 19th century almshouse building - won the City of Durham Trust's Architectural Award for 2011. The project was described has being 'a restoration incorporating new build that brought back vitality and interest to the historic core of the city', and praised for its careful refurbishment of the almshouse, for the honest combination of old and new elements, and for its simplicity in line and detail.

43-44 Saddler Street, restored to become Zizzi's restaurant, also received the award.
