Heritage Open Days: cut-flower and herb gardens

Celebrate Heritage Open Days with free events at Durham Cathedral and explore spaces usually closed to members of the public.

Explore the cathedral's cut flower garden and enjoy activities for all ages in our monastic herb garden.

Meet the cathedral gardeners in their colourful cut-flower garden on the South Bailey, where flowers for display in the cathedral are grown.

Discover the monastic herb garden in the former location of Durham Priory’s monastic infirmary. Find out more about the plants, their historic uses and join in with hands-on activities. A small number of plants are available in exchange for a donation.

Both of these activities are free to enter. The cut-flower garden is on the bailey between St Cuthbert's Society and the church of St Mary the Less. The monastic herb garden is located next to the Education Centre. Ask at the cathedral visitor desk for directions.
