Heritage Open Days: Chapter House

Saturday 14 September – Saturday 21 September 2019

Celebrate Heritage Open Days with free events at Durham Cathedral and explore spaces usually closed to members of the public. Explore the Chapter House, a stunning hidden space within Durham Cathedral.

Saturday 14 September 10am-4pm, and Monday 16 to Saturday 21 September 10am-4pm.

Discover Durham Cathedral’s Chapter House, a space rarely open to the public as it is used as a preparation space for services. It was originally where the daily business of the monastery was carried out. You might recognise the Chapter House as the filming location of Professor McGonagall’s classroom in the early Harry Potter films.

This is a free activity and no booking is required. The Chapter House is located in the cloister of Durham Cathedral. Please note that public access to the Chapter House may be limited for brief periods, due to the use of the space for service preparation - during these times the Chapter House doors will remain open but visitors will not be able to enter the space.
