Everyone's History: 20 years of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure Act

An exhibition celebrating 20 years of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure Act and also the archaeology that is discovered everyday by the public.

20 years ago a unique programme began, its aim was to record archaeological artefacts found by the general public. Today over a million objects have been recorded and many important objects and sites discovered.

This exhibition features objects that have been found by the public. It also highlights some of the objects that have been acquired through the Treasure Act, including for the first time part of a Bronze Age hoard found in County Durham.

 

The gallery is open Monday, 12 – 5pm and Tuesday to Sunday, 10am – 5pm

During Lumiere Festival (16th to 19th November) please note that Palace Green Library will have an earlier closing time of 4pm.

Christmas and New Year opening

Palace Green Library will close for Christmas on Friday 22nd December 2017, and will be open again on Wednesday 27th, Thursday 28th, Friday 29th and Saturday 30th December between 11am and 4pm.

For New Year we are closed Saturday 31st December and Monday 1st January. We open again at 9am on Tuesday 2nd January 2018.
