Interface Arts: Introduction to Miao embroidery

Join us for a hands-on workshop led by artist Maggie Hickman Smith of Interface Arts.

 

The Miao communities in South West China have a rich textile tradition of embellishing cloth with embroidery, appliqué and wax resist.

During the workshop participants will explore some of the embroidery stitches used in their colourful costumes and create a sample inspired by Miao embroidery techniques and stiches to take home. You will be introduced to the basic techniques of Chinese hand stitching and create your own piece of work to take home.

All equipment and materials will be provided. No experience necessary.

£4 charge per person (payable on the day). Suitable for adults aged 16+
